Flood of Webcomics by TylerMartin Flood of Webcomics by TylerMartin
A while ago the webcomics podcast Digital Strips had a contest where you had to fill-in/finish a B&W comic frame that featured the main two hosts sitting in an iPod. With the flood of webcomics that have been storming the net I figured I would do something to represent them, all struggling to survive in a sea of creators...

I didn't win the site's pick prize but I did win the random drawing prize for the contest which is pretty cool. I'm looking forward to receiving the goods which include several printed copies of various webcomic collections and compilations. If you are familiar with the world of webcomics you might pick out several bits in the image. If not you can read the small text below.Across the top I featured possibly the 5 most trafficked webcomics. Top left is the Penny-Ark, Penny-Arcade is at the top of the webcomic food chain and I figured they would be best represented being in a large yacht, I suppose the creators they are chopping up with the propellers are being "wanged" (When Penny-Arcade links a site like a webcomic the surge of traffic can crash or bring their site to its knees). Next there is VG Cats in a hovercraft, then Megatokyo in a Japanese ship, then CAD in a "cabin"-boat (hermit style since he seems to avoid the webcomic world and many other creators have differences with him) and finally PVP represented by the SS Kurtz (Scott Kurtz motoring around the webcomic world as he often does getting in on discussions, he's got a Skull antennae cap too.)

I've got Keenspot represented with Chris Crosby and Darren Bleuel sitting on the island of creators they have built on to survive in webcomics. Then opposite them is Joey "Darth" Manley of ModernTales and Webcomics Nation fame staying above water with a raft made of creators (I guess he is more mobile than Keenspot as he seems to be trying to reach new frontiers and not sitting back so much - not sure who coined "Darth" Manley but on occasion he has referred to himself as that). The rest are just random creators and pages of comics. I didn't represent all the various collectives but I did stick an umbrella in there for Dumbrella.
